My Approach to Therapy

Recognizing Patterns

When facing ongoing stress, we often default to worst-case scenarios, causing us to second-guess and overthink. Applying practical CBT techniques helps you analyze your thoughts, beliefs, and actions, helping you find ways to move forward

Leveraging Abilities

We use our strengths to create meaningful change by establishing a solid foundation that enables us to face challenges with resilience and hope. DBT helps us focus on what is most important and cultivate practical habits to stay grounded

Building Resilience

When the nervous system faces repeated overwhelm, it stays in a fight-or-flight mode, preventing rest and recovery. Rather than concentrating on what is missing, SFBT uses practical techniques to harness strengths and foster resilience

Our Focus Areas

Everyone has personal and professional responsibilities, and the pressure to maintain consistency and perform can lead to unnoticed stress, anxiety, or fatigue. At Horizon Within Psychotherapy, we help you address these feelings in these four areas

Self-Confidence

When others rely on us, decision fatigue gradually depletes our mental energy. It's not that we stop making choices; instead, each decision creates self-doubt and makes us feel drained

The goal is to develop practical techniques so you can make confident decisions and move forward, breaking free from the "what-if" scenarios

Performance

Relying on adrenaline or willpower is common; however, staying in survival mode consistently results in feelings of extreme fatigue

The goal is to build stamina and endurance so that they become a reliable, steady benchmark instead of a source of underperformance

Resilience

Handling stress quietly until it becomes overwhelming, or attempting to push through it to cope, are unhealthy strategies

The goal is to redefine stress management by developing practical strategies that build stamina and endurance, helping you manage expectations and strengthen resilience

Recovery

If your mind remains distracted, a break labeled as "personal screen time" doesn't truly help you rest or recharge, and genuine recovery won't happen

The goal is to develop practical methods that assist with recharging and recovery, helping you move forward in life

Modalities

Our approach and sessions are based on these evidence-based therapeutic frameworks to help address your concerns

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Examines how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are linked. Continuous stress often leads to overthinking and imagining the worst. CBT helps recognize these thought patterns, reduce distractions, and shows they are connected, allowing for better decision-making

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Explores how you handle intense emotions and stress, allowing you to stay effective. Instead of waiting for feelings to diminish, it focuses on forming small, consistent habits that keep you grounded. DBT supports you in making choices aligned with your goals, helping you make progress even when overwhelmed

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

Recognizes your past as part of your story but gives it less focus. Instead, it prompts you to envision what a resolution might look like. SFBT's method is straightforward, impactful, and future-focused, emphasizing your strengths and using them to move forward
